In terms of the South Stand, all you can hear is the chants, when you can hear it that is, so perhaps it seems louder than it actually is?  I doubt the lads at the back could hear it from where they are and they were the ones making the mistakes so I'm doubtful as to it having an early effect on the players, mate.  I'm pretty sure we were poor for more obvious reasons.

Where were you sat CT? I saw it like this: those who were piping up giving it towards Britt, Woody etc, changed the mood of the atmosphere instantly. The chants died down and the toxic atmosphere became much more prominent. Whether the players/Woody can hear each individual piece of abuse thrown towards them, I am not sure, but it definitely tipped the atmosphere into a nervy, scrappy one. The way the players looked so nervous on the ball with ridiculous wayward passes was surely partly down to the atmosphere. Either way, the individual abuse I heard towards the players was unacceptable and it (imo) definitely caused the atmosphere to turn sour early on. People were genuinely screaming at the players/manager so I wouldn't had been surprised if they did hear it mind.

Before I begin, this is my first post on the forum - really enjoyed following the rumours over the summer transfer window and i'm happy to be here. I've been going to games following the home and away

A few months back, I somehow by accident copy pasted a porn-link into a post at a random place .. It was really hillarious, but at least it lifted the mood, when the Pulis era was at it's worst ?

Hi guys, long time lurker first time poster. Kudos to all involved in this forum, easily the best Boro forum around. We've just put up an article addressing a couple of the issues in this thread.

At the other end of the ground.  I thought it was quite clear that we were playing badly from the start of the game and that flattened the atmosphere a bit.  Like I said, you couldn't hear a thing from where I am and our mistakes were more from the lads at the back than at the front so I doubt they'd have heard it.  If there is that going on over there then having the louder lads and lasses right next to them should hopefully help to drown it out ?

I definitely understand the frustration at the officials and getting annoyed at wasted opportunities but at the same time i don't agree with personalised attacks.

A little off topic but I am heading to the Riverside for the game on Saturday (First home game in 7 years due to being a southerner) and i was wondering which stand has the best atmosphere? Love a good chant and a bit of passion. I'm hearing the south stand is probably the best?

Absolutely mate, I tried harder than usual to raise my voice and help out with the chants, and RF definitely did their bit too.

I can very much understand frustration in football, the officials for example last night were once again awful and I definitely kicked the seat in front a couple times at their decisions. But given how desperate we were for a win, supporting a team managed by a local lad, I just think the 'frustration' was no longer frustration when people are hurling abuse at player/manager a like within 20 minutes, it was embarrassing stupidity. I see no reason why fans should be taking it out on the players when they can see for themselves that it was having a nervous, negative effect on them in a game we so desperately needed to win. Not surprised Britt cupped his ears towards the south stand after he scored. I feel bad in a way telling people how they should feel and act at a game but I just cannot see any sense in the way fans were dealing with their frustrations last night.

Thats football though and has been happening for decades at all levels of the game, not really anything new. Pulis probably would have benefitted more from support from the fans right up to the end but doesn't mean fans are going to want to chant his name.

Woodgate's local lad credentials got him as far as the job and some fans to trust him, even be encouraged based on pressers. Everything beyond that has to be earned with results and performances. Certainly not advocating booing or anything  like that, but people are never just going to have a good jolly sing song and shout the team on when they're playing crap and making schoolboy errors. Won't happen here, won't happen anywhere (imo) because people have paid hard earned money (especially on Teesside where wages are low and tickets costs are high) to be entertained.

Hahaha sadly true, hopefully the Wigan game will calm them down a bit..

Haha Hopefully although i don't mind a bit of that...Passion and frustration sometimes go hand in hand ?

Actually, if Leon fancies a game, we might not have a left back fit to play so he could get a pretty good view of the game from the pitch ?

I’m up for that! Anybody got Woody’s number? ?

From the past 5 years i've had a season ticket, obviously i've seen frustration towards players and managers alike, as yes we have a passionate fanbase from a working class region. But there comes to a point where that is no longer excuse, imo. I have never felt this until now, but the actions of some fans last night from the south stand was just unacceptable. There is a time and place for booing and hurling abuse (under Pulis, for example), but I just cannot see how giving it towards Woody and his team 4 league games into a season is helpful or acceptable. We were desperate for a win and it was if some fans would rather just egg us on to lose rather than get Woody his first, vital 3 points.
