I'd go for a lineup of;
Djiksteel*, Shotton, Fry, Friend, Coulson**
Saville, Howson, Tavernier***
* Spence hasn't done much wrong, but I think he's dropped off in form since the Millwall game. I reckon that knock to the face has knocked his confidence. He was largely non-existent in the 2nd half and the Bristol game.
**Similar to Spence, Johnson hasn't really done much wrong. But playing away from home I'd like to see us set-up with more pace in the team.
***McNair needs to be dropped, how Saville was taken off before him is beyond me! I think he is too slow in terms of releasing the ball, and against Bristol any half chance we had to counter he'd always check back and break the momentum of the counter up. Think Tav looked lively when he came on and think he could suit a counter attacking game.
I was also going to suggest dropping Friend for Moukoudi, but as of this morning it appears he has played his game with us. Shame as I think he'll end up being a good player.
We used our possession primarily as game management and concentrated it mainly around halfway which caused quite the disquiet from fans at the time, rarely were our goals the result of the possession, either we forced a turnover in midfield and released our quicker players down the wing to deliver it or we pushed up on channel balls forced opposition errors and scored. Most of the time we won by 1 goal margins it would frustrate fans no end because inevitably we'd spend the last 10 minutes 'hanging on'. I'm not here to slate Karanka but when people reminisce about his time they act like we played pretty football when the reality was we used Nugent as a battering ram, fed crosses in the box and were perfectly ok ceding possession to opponents by kicking it deep in their half to force errors and turnovers high up the pitch.
Karanka can't come back anyway he probably still has the knife wounds from the frenzy that came at him when he left, he and the evil Victor Orta are to blame why we aren't a Premier League side still after all absolutely no one else involved in that seasons shambles that are still at the club thank god...
