Boro V Sheffield Wednesday 1-4 (McNair)

Recommended Posts

One step forward, two steps back. Its becoming a familiar pattern with Boro this season. Just when you think we're starting to make progress, we're right back at square one. There wasn't much to cheer about for the Teessiders who made the long trip to Cardiff. The game was dull as dishwater and Boro looked as though they had forgotten how to play football. Business as usual then, eh?

Tuesday Sigh GIF by The Secret Life Of Pets

Time to dust off the disappointment of last week and restart a unbeaten run? Or just get some points, we're a bit lacking in that department. Some points would be very nice. Standing in our way are Sheffield Wednesday, going through a period of mixed form themselves (though their earlier good results have them sitting at 9th in the table, 6 places above the Boro). Their last outing in the Champisonship was a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Onto the team. I know I never want to see a back three again, that's for damn sure. Probably unpopular with the Ayala fans but I'd drop him. Defence was doing better without him. Team prediction is:

GK: Randolph
LB: Bola
RB: Dijksteel
CB: Fry
CB: Shotton
DM: Clayton
CM: Wing
CM: McNair
LF: Fletcher
ST: Assombalonga
RF: Johnson

Of course I can't do a matchday thread without talking about the return of Garry (remember the two 'r's) Monk. That delightful man who spent a lot of money in the player sweet shop and went on to see very little for his returns. Then of course there was the side issue of him allegedly making a profit off said sales and a potential lawsuit so his return is unlikely to yield a good reception but that seems to be par for the course for Garry these days.

So Predictions? Premonitions?

Who knows with Boro these days. Consistently inconsistent is my verdict.

Home win.

Again, really? Monk got everyone he wanted for huge prices, he had a blank cheque handed to him. Pulis had the ability to turn down players for not wanting to play at Middlesbrough for the rest of the

I mean I don't agree for a start that Southgate had a better pedigree than Woodgate. He's also been involved outside the playing side of the game longer than Southgate was. Monk had plenty more experi

Good OP Jen and I have to agree with your observations with regards to the team.

We really do need a home win this week just to stave off confirmation that we are going nowhere this season.

The team also needs to put in a performance just so Garry Monk does not leave a happy chappie after the game.

Remember when we gave all our parachute money and one big shot at promotion to Garry Monk? Good times.

Think this will be 1-1. Really hope we play better than at Cardiff - another stinker and I think a few more thousand fans will tip into the 'getting a bit fed up' camp.

I am hoping for a narrow 2-1 win . Sheffield have started reasonably well and we are still very much a work in progress but with the added impetus of a decent crowd I think we will squeak a win.

Agree that a back 3 is not the future and that RR's line up is the way to go.

We as fans are so lacking in confidence! must admit I don't fancy us against Sheff Wed, we will need to see a dramatic improvement from recent games.

I hope we go back to 4-3-3 and try to play football, isn't that the so called new philosophy?

Would you agree that most of our poorer performances have been this season have been against teams with "Route One" style approaches.....? Wednesday seem to be more of a footballing side, so whilst not overly confident about an easy victory, I would not be surprised to see us end up with three points......this is a game to be won, so let them worry about us and avoid falling into the trap of trying not to lose, rather than playing "our way"

Do you really think Woddgate will leave out Captain Ayala?

The wingback system might work against a team, that doesn't camp in their own half ?

I would go with:

Randz
Dijk, Shotton, Ayala, Fry, Bola
              Paddy, Wing/howson
Johnson, Ass, Fletcher

You could be right SD!

The team in the OP is the team I would play but a fit Ayala is likely to play. Captains seemed to get played regardless of form.

I'm pretty confident. 2-0 win. We shouldn't be playing wing backs for this game for one, just hope this time we turn up in the first half and give Wednesday something to think about before half time, rather than looking like we need to get in for half time 5 minutes into the game like the last home game.

Not at all confident about this game. But then again I can't remember the last time I was.  And for the life of me I just can't seem to motivate myself to get off the 'meh' bench. I guess the Pulis poison runs deep.

Anyway. I think the best we will get from this game is a draw. I am going for 0-0.

On a side note. Is football the only game that seems to regurgitate the same names over and over again???

It seems you can be a total failure and still get a well paid job.

Baffles me at times does this game.
