Again, really? Monk got everyone he wanted for huge prices, he had a blank cheque handed to him. Pulis had the ability to turn down players for not wanting to play at Middlesbrough for the rest of the

I mean I don't agree for a start that Southgate had a better pedigree than Woodgate. He's also been involved outside the playing side of the game longer than Southgate was. Monk had plenty more experi

One step forward, two steps back. Its becoming a familiar pattern with Boro this season. Just when you think we're starting to make progress, we're right back at square one. There wasn't much to cheer

Are our players good footballers?
Try and ask yourselves and answer honest!  (leave defenders out)

Who springs to mind as good footballers?

We have specialists like:
Britt close range poacher (but he is awful with the ball and his first touch isn't that good)
Clayton is a solid defensive help and has sometimes a good pass (but he cannot dribble or shoot and he is very limited and immobile)
Howson runs and runs and has a decent pass (but he cannot score and his dribbles look too direct and too narrow)

The best option for a GOOD footballer is Mc'Nair or Wing when he is up for it...

I am not trying to say our players are bad for this division, we just badly needs someone else who can create something, who has drive, a good dribbler, someone who shoots like Wing... and most important has the right VISION ..

Our attacking play is sometimes really frustrating, cause some players slows it down or cannot see the right patterns ..

But I love and support our players .. We just need a few creative forces .. And all of this post is a response to WHY Woody's football won't show as much as he and we hope for...

Let's hope Keane can do magic and we sooner or later get a good run going.

Yeah we've hardly got any players that you would call technically gifted. I suppose that's mostly to do with the influence of previous managers although Woodgate and the club have done little to address the problem either.

The whole woe be Woodgate narrative is a little lame to be honest it was his decision not to bring in targets further down his list 'for the sake of numbers' also his decision to keep hold of our 15 million striker and Randolph so maybe we could start judging Woodgate as a Middlesbrough FC manager and not grade him on the curve of a child.

I love the optimism in other posts about us resigning Ayala/Howson like they'll accept our terms when they'll both easily have pay rise offers from Championship rivals on frees next summer regardless of whatever we think about them 'deserving' a contract with us or not. Our financial hole's only getting dug deeper by the decisions of this manager how to square that with him being the long term solution with this mysterious unseen 'style' I have no clue I struggle to see what we're actually trying to accomplish off and on the field never mind seeing us accomplish anything.

I'm going for a 2 1 defeat I think their direct running will cause us problems and Britt's probably due a goal so we'll pull one back.

Really? I mean, I'd contest that simply by saying if someone offered us a respectable bid for either player you've mentioned there, they'd be gone whether Woody wanted to keep them or not (and they still might be). And you also seem to be contesting that a manager with very little money to spend should be judged badly for deciding against spending for spending's sake? Not to mention that it seems increasingly clear that Woodgate has very little say over who we sign beyond an indication of who he'd like to have.

Not at all confident about this game. But then again I can't remember the last time I was.  And for the life of me I just can't seem to motivate myself to get off the 'meh' bench. I guess the Pulis poison runs deep.

Anyway. I think the best we will get from this game is a draw. I am going for 0-0.

On a side note. Is football the only game that seems to regurgitate the same names over and over again???

It seems you can be a total failure and still get a well paid job.

Baffles me at times does this game.

No, the fat cats in boardrooms of major companies do the rounds too.  Perhaps other than those who get a big payoff, retire and have all their investments in offshore tax havens.

I'd just like to see Woodgate play the type of football he preached about. The type of football we haven't REALLY seen since Luton. What happened?

Missing Coulson has been part of that problem I believe

It's pretty clear from the clubs actions this summer that they did prioritize signing players Woodgate targeted specifically arguably he's in a more autonomous position than most of our managers have been on the recruitment front, he reiterated the 'Britts my no.9' in public and private and hailed Randolph as the best around I'm pretty sure if he wanted to cash in on the pair of them the club would have backed it especially given the apparent desperate financial straits we're in.

My point here isn't 'sack him' or 'Woodgate out' it's the coddling of him where nothing's ever his fault no decision is in his hands it must be the players or the ref or Gibson it's a strange environment to come into at times this season. I just don't think we're in a good place as a club right now, I'm not talking about for promotion or financially, I think we all see different problems we're not debating solutions anymore because we don't see the same problems or even agree on what our manager's responsible for I think that feeds into the growing apathy week on week it's pretty clear we're in for a long season this is only going to grow and get worse.

Just to follow this thread... as we've seen just the other day with Thomas Cook, there are some truly dreadful people in business today for the sake of their own personal profit. They live the high life and rather than spread the wealth amongst the people who make it for them, they'd sooner fill their own bank accounts and retire happy in the knowledge that they'll be alright, forget the people who used to work for you. If your risk goes wrong, it's not you who'll pay the price, you'll still take your humongous cut at the end of the day and leave everyone else stranded looking for work to make sure they can pay their bills.

Again, really? Monk got everyone he wanted for huge prices, he had a blank cheque handed to him. Pulis had the ability to turn down players for not wanting to play at Middlesbrough for the rest of their career whilst taking a cut of our sales, our chairman seemingly worshipped the ground he walked on so I highly doubt Woody has had it better than him. Woody got 3 (cheap)  players out of those he brought up in his interview as being part of how he'd look to build his team and you think that's evidence enough of autonomy? If any of those players had cost a couple of extra million, do you think they'd still be here? I'd argue the money they cost is the more important factor than Woodgate's opinion.

Of course he wants to keep those 2 players. He'd be mad for wanting to get rid of them. That doesn't mean he was ultimately the most significant factor in us keeping them. Who was willing to offer what we valued for them? I've never once heard this summer from anyone supposedly in the know that Woodgate was able to put his foot down on any player so I've no idea how you've come to that conclusion based on us keeping two of our best players who pretty much everyone wanted to keep.

I don't think many people think nothing is his fault. But to start picking away at any manager's tenure what is effectively 5 minutes into his career is also not the right thing to do. To start that process by pinning things on him which he ultimately doesn't have a great deal of control of (as far as I can see) seems a poor way to approach that. What are the things we can absolutely judge him on? Performances and results. And yes, you take into account the rub of the green this early on in his career because if you look at his points per game percentages, each point makes a huge difference at this stage of his career. So yeah, I'm annoyed for him that we had 2 goals ruled out against Brentford, we had a penalty miss against Luton, we've had numerous terrible handball decisions at the Riverside already this season that may have led to penalties or decent chances. And if we talk about performances... who's being dishonest about those for his benefit? I think even if we've disagreed in these threads so far about performances, they come from a point of honesty, praise and criticism alike.

There wasn't much to cheer about for the Teessiders who made the long trip to Cardiff. The game was dull as dishwater and Boro looked as though they had forgotten how to play football. Business as usual then, eh?

Tuesday Sigh GIF by The Secret Life Of Pets

Time to dust off the disappointment of last week and restart a unbeaten run? Or just get some points, we're a bit lacking in that department. Some points would be very nice. Standing in our way are Sheffield Wednesday, going through a period of mixed form themselves (though their earlier good results have them sitting at 9th in the table, 6 places above the Boro). Their last outing in the Champisonship was a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Onto the team. I know I never want to see a back three again, that's for damn sure. Probably unpopular with the Ayala fans but I'd drop him. Defence was doing better without him. Team prediction is:

GK: Randolph
LB: Bola
RB: Dijksteel
CB: Fry
CB: Shotton
DM: Clayton
CM: Wing
CM: McNair
LF: Fletcher
ST: Assombalonga
RF: Johnson

Of course I can't do a matchday thread without talking about the return of Garry (remember the two 'r's) Monk. That delightful man who spent a lot of money in the player sweet shop and went on to see very little for his returns. Then of course there was the side issue of him allegedly making a profit off said sales and a potential lawsuit so his return is unlikely to yield a good reception but that seems to be par for the course for Garry these days.

So Predictions? Premonitions?

Who knows with Boro these days. Consistently inconsistent is my verdict.

Home win.

We always seem to lose our game Straight after an International break, win our next two both at home an were back in the mixer,so come on lads do the business
