Did the same apply to Bola and Browne in the summer? Was part of the plan having to send them back to their previous clubs because of how poor they’ve been?

Have a day off, every signing is a risk.

People are happy for us to spend 2mill plus on Maddison but when it's a keeper who has been scouted by the recruitment team, Coyne and Percovich you don't trust them?

Our fans love a moan

Bit harsh to write off Bola and Browne already too. They are only 22

I haven’t criticised the signing at all, I’m playing devils advocate to the idea that any signing that the club signs off on must therefore be part of the plan and not subject to any questioning. Presumably Mejias was re-scouted by all of these people as well, if he was actually good enough (which your logic would suggest he is) then we wouldn’t even need to sign this new fella.

Its a message board, people tend to discuss things on them.

Who’s written them off?

Why would you rescout a player who already played for you? He was an easy free signing to fill a gap, who Leo and Woody already knew.

I genuinely dont see the difference between playing devils advocate and criticism

I’m afraid that’s your problem, not mine.

The data analyst for Portsmouth on twitter seems to think that Stojanovic is a great keeper. Thinks he’ll be no1

I wonder what his distribution is like. Woodgate wants to play out from the back.

I’d imagine it’s because it’s a significant portion of our relatively small budget

We could get 5 Marcus Brown's or 1/2 Dijksteel with that money

He'll provide competition to Friend for front cover of the topless calendar

Haven’t seen many people at all saying they were happy spending the 2+million on Maddison. They were happy if it was at a lower price.

Going by past transfers and dealings the club has made, it’s a fair judgement to say that we might have overpaid. It’s not a moan.

Imo I don’t actually see how on the face of it, he’s worth £1mill. He’s came from the Swiss league, a team finishing 6th, and can’t get into the Macedonian squad. Not to mention his contract was out in 6 months. We must really rate him.

He might turn out great and I hope he does.

interesting you said that. i've scoured the net looking for clips of st gallen with him playing. he's cetainly not afraid to rush out the box. i get the impression he is a bit of a sweeper keeper. presuming he must be decennt with his feet to have the confidence to do that. not seen any footage of that. not the sot of highlights you see on is it. unless he messes up. so not seeing might be a goodthing o=lol

Doesn’t help that the lad seems to have some of the worst defenders ever seen in front of him😂

as stated further back, he cant play for their senior team as he is a austrian citizen.

    • Surprising as it may seem I do have a life outside of this forum!Read late on Saturday posts, in fairness others had succinctly put the deficiencies in his game.  He gets his game for one reason - we hardly have an alternative. Nice situation - for him
    • Brilliant shout erimus & my mates favourite player Not long after signing for the Boro he was mistaken as one of the members of the Great train robbery team, released soon after though  I should have thought of him, he would have definetly gone in to my fact of the day  He also ran a pub back in Swansea
    • You were missed after the Derby game, it's good to see you back. Two goals in two games now, the lad is on fire 💪
    • Assombalonga wasn't a mythical striker who scored goals for fun at this level though.  He scored 15 goals and then 14 goals before he joined us.  He then scored 15 goals and 14 goals for us.  We got exactly what we paid for, it's just that we paid far too much for him in the first place.  I'm not sure what it is about this that people don't get, unless they convinced themselves he was a 20+ striker somehow? Hugill is a beast of a striker.  The best season Hugill has had at this level was last season when he scored 13 goals.  He's only ever hit double figures twice at this level.  When they played in the same team, Hugill got 6 goals, Assombalonga got 14, albeit Assombalonga played more minutes, but he didn't play double the minutes.  Ah, but Hugill is the better all round player.  Hugill has 7 assists in his career at this level, Assombalonga has 6.  Hugill is a beast, Assombalonga is rubbish 🤷‍♂️ I think the bigger problem we have is the expectations that we place on some of these players.  The likes of Boyd and McDonald were players who had done ok at a relatively weak level of competition only.  Rhodes did well at this level but in a different set up to the one he joined when he came here, and we made no attempt to replicate that - that's one reason why an owner shouldn't decide to buy players. I'd say that we have three strikers who appear to be much of a muchness.  I doubt any of them would hit 20 a season at this level, they'd all top out at around 15 I reckon.  All you can do, as you mention, is attempt to play to their strengths as much as possible, or accept that if you don't then you will get inconsistent performances.  15 goals a season from a striker is fine, unless you spent £15m on that striker, in which case that's your own fault for not understanding what you are purchasing.
