January transfer window 19/20 season Post Mortem

noticeable that Saville's poorer games are often when Johnson is in team...spends more time trying to bail him out than winning the ball and pushing forward...then gets hammered for the mistake he is trying to put right....did well in the aggro at the end though..looked like he was trying to keep the Birmingham guy from losing it altogether

Saville has been our best midfielder along with Tav in our recent upturn in performances.

Saville wasn't great yesterday but not many were. He has absolutely been much better in the recent run, though, he actually started to stand out a bit which is some progress from where I've felt he's been at for pretty much the entirety of the previous year and a bit of his Boro career. Glad to see it!

Think it’s clearly mcnair that guy is talking about, would be disappointed to see him leave tbh.

If he does go does that mean we need 3 defenders with at least 2 being centre backs? That's a heck of a lot of transfers to see through. I guess we keep Shotton just to see us through to summer.

It honestly wouldn’t shock me if it did, I wouldn’t hate it but at the same time wouldn’t mind us looking at younger/cheaper options. Shankland up in Scotland for example.

I am not convinced they're even interested in Britt, this is purely agent talk to try to pressure clubs on other deals

    • I honestly don't see us being cut adrift at any point.  As bad as things have been, I still think we'll scrape enough points together to keep our heads above the bottom 3.  To answer your question about how bad things would have to be for Woodgate to get sacked, I'm not sure whether he'll even get sacked if we fall into the bottom 3 or get relegated.
    • The short term vision of the club is to offload the high earners at the first possible opportunity. Is it any surprise that those players aren’t exactly killing themselves for the club’s cause?    The medium term vision, although not popular with many supporters must be to bring through young players, the likes of Spence and Coulson and flog ‘em for big bucks.   The long term vision? Gibbo wants to own a unicorn farm and he’s going to put Woody in charge. The money raised by selling unicorns will go towards buying top English talent that will propel us to the promised land.
    • SDS you mentioned on another thread that you believed we would try and push again next season, obviously providing we are in the same League.  Do you still believe that to be the case? Who do you think we will offer new contracts to and who will accept?  Any info on that please?
    • Sadly all too true. We take strikers with good records at other clubs and turn them into frustrated, isolated attacking midfielders...when we're not trying to play them as wingers.
    • At least I'd hope none of us would end up having 4 strikers on at once. If we needed any further evidence that Woody hasn't got a frigging clue then that would be it. 🤦‍♂️
