Desperate times lead to desperate measures!  Its the return of the Magic Lamp!  I urge everyone to give it a rub and wish for a Boro win, it worked before, it can work again!

*rubs furiously*         ...the LAMP, that is...

yes please....then I can finally say "Rhodes.....where we're going we won't need Rhodes"...........

Perhaps instead of a magic lamp, what we need is one of these...

back to the future dmc GIF

So we can go back to 2009 and have Gibson NOT sack Southgate? 😉

All we need to do is go back to THAT january and spend the money wisely and back AK or at least get a decent manager.

Or play that Blackburn fixture in 96/97.

Still don't understand why we didn't treat it like a Cup game and play the kids (U23s) if the situation was that bad.

That 3 point deduction *sigh* Would have finished 15th but for that. Blackburn were on a par with us that season. Had a decent chance of getting a draw, even with youngsters.

Because you're looking at it with the benefit of hindsight.  At the time we'd just been humped 5-1 at Liverpool and we hadn't won in the league for three months.  The idea of going up against a likely relegation rival without most of our senior players probably didn't seem all that appealing to Robson.

As far as I remember we actually thought we had been given the OK by the FA and had done everything correct. It's not like we just didn't show up and didn't bother.

We hadn't been given the OK by the FA at all. We approached the FA and were warned what could happen, we looked at what had happened in the past to teams who failed to fulfil fixtures (a fine) and decided it was worth it.

The FA made an example of us by docking us points as well.
