I disagree. People need to be kept up to date and communication is key to this. The more info out there for people at risk the better it is. I'd rather you be bored if it helps saves lives to be honest.

Out of interest, are you in Australia or the UK buddy?  Communication?  Yeah but too much info is send everyone wild, to seem a little wild mate.  That's a joke so don't get upset

I had my test results back and they were positive for Covid-19.. So lucky that I just had the mild symptoms!!

Hope everyone's doing well and keeping healthy! Haven't posted for a few months due to being busy and the lack of football, but had a gradual read through this thread. Crazy looking back at the f

😂 No idea what the punchline is in that joke!

I'm in the UK and I agree that media outlets overreacting only stirs up hysteria but on the whole I don't think people are going overboard at the moment. Nothing wrong with being cautious and vigilant if it saves lives.

I honestly cant believe the number of people who think they know better than the world health organisation. There is an element of overreaction in the sense of hoarding goods unnecessarily - though I think that is more a question of selfishness than overreaction - but this is a massive and very real threat to the country.

This is not equivalent to the common flu. The agreed mortality rate for this virus is between 0.5-4%, making it at its lowest 5 times more deadly than the flu and at its highest 40 times more deadly. With the added element of the unknown (we dont fully understand how it is spread, how infectious it is etc) this is not just a simple flu and given the chance it can cause crazy levels of illness/death demand for healthcare that isnt available, economic and social damage. Every single expert agrees with this.

Yet were told that theres nothing to worry about if we wash our hands. It's best summed up by events in the last week with two of the world leaders - boris Johnson said in parliament that the levels will not rise. An hour later 50 more cases had been confirmed. Trump similarly was contradicted in the very same press conference where he was directly lying to the public to try to encourage calm.

Why are people listening to politicians and the media rather than the experts? It's this culture that leaves this country in the state that it's in.

Finally, just have a look at this (from raw data from actual research and not what your da says down the pub) -

Something to think about.

I just think it's overhyped and we'll all be alright as long as we keep calm and carry on, drink tea, eat crumpets, full English and a couple of bevvies and we'll be fine.

Lad in our office who has been brushing it off as officially fine has since started to change his mind because he listened to the Joe Rogan podcast. We've cited so many official sources, including the WHO, as a reason to react and not continue as you were and because one bloke with decent credentials was on a podcast with someone who has nothing to do with it, he's changed his mind.

Agreed. Obsessing over the latest stats and reading lots of wild speculation on social media doesn't help at all.

The Chancellor's budget statement was quite interesting. Apparently the government has found £30bn to go towards helping the NHS deal with the expected increase in coronavirus cases, expand testing and help those who don't get statutory sick pay, if they have to stop work & self-isolate.

Almost as bad as all these internet nutjobs that think they know better than the wise and talented Jonathan Woodgate.

Biggest daily raise in cases just reported in the uk today.

It's all fine!

We're still in the first half of the "bell curve". Cases are expected to increase for the next couple of weeks (at least).

Need to keep reminding yourself the majority of people will only experience flu-like symptoms. Its only really dangerous to elderly people with underlying health issues.

If you are elderly and have existing health issues...then feel free to panic.

One mans obsessing over stats is another mans acknowledgement of facts.

This is the worst argument I see regularly.

Who cares if i am unlikely to die from this if there are millions out there who might? What about my parents? My friends who have suffered illnesses that naturally make their immune system weak?

I think the  biggest thing that this virus has exposed is countries lack of basic bloody empathy.
