The only way to physically prevent the spread is to lock down the entire country - prevent any and all travel and all public gatherings. The country would grind to a halt. No transport. No public services. Food shortages would quickly ensue. Fact is, movement of people is necessary for a country to function. Also, the vast majority of people who DO contract coronavirus WILL make full recoveries, suffering nothing more than flu-like symptoms. Last but not least, the first UK case was diagnosed over a month ago and we're still nowhere near the levels in Italy. Yes, the number of cases will very likely continue to rise over the next 2-3 weeks, but even so, they'll still be far lower...even if they triple or quadruple. Banning large crowds, restricting travel, and actually testing people travelling from high risk countries would be a start. only reason this hasn’t exploded in this country is because the cases so far have been identified early and then quarantined, once you start getting hundreds of cases that’s impossible and you end up with a situation like Italy. yes a lot of people will recover but doesn’t Italy have around 30% of cases needing hospital treatment at the moment? Health system is at capacity in this country so how do we manage that? already reports from Italy about having to prioritise cases where people have the best chance of survival due to lack of equipment, and it’s no where near its peak yet

The lack of awareness and common sense shown by so many is staggering.

You want to go back to the game that you saved before the season started and begin again! Why would you want all the hard work that all the players and staff have put in to be pointless?

Except for player and staff wages, refund on season tickets, loan repayments, etc. Not clear to me how playing without selling tickets is massively more expensive than not playing at all. Were the season ended, I suspect the TV money for remaining games would have to be repaid. Could be even worse.
OzzyPorter 44
It's been well documented that lower league clubs playing games behind closed doors without receipt of gate money would be in serious financial jeopardy. How about looking at the bigger picture rather than ones own interest for starters.
wilsoncgp 9,230
Clubs act so much at the top level based on the TV money. I suspect there would be a significant negotiation involved there. After all, Sky and BT wouldn't want the competition being devalued as then their product isn't even worth that much. If clubs at the top level had to pay back significant fees, it could really hurt them. I suspect given how far along we are it wouldn't be that significant though.
