Born in Durham on 21 September 1998, Ben Liddle is the son of former Middlesbrough and Darlington centre back Craig Liddle. The defensive midfielder signed his first contract for Middlesbrough on October 2016, in a season where he played 24 games for the U18s and 4 games for the U23s.

The versatile player who can also play right-back and centre back was loaned to Blyth Spartans on March 2018, to enable him to continue his development. 

In the 2018/2019 season, he continues to be an integral part of the U23s where he played 17 games including three games against Walsall, Port Vale and Burton Albion in the Checkatrade EFL Cup. 

On 31 January 2019, he made a loan move to League Two side Forest Green Rovers, playing as a substitute in two games against Swindon Town and Yeovil Town.
