Jonathan Mark Howson was born on 21 May 1988 in Morley, England.
After coming through the Leeds United academy with James Milner, Danny Rose and Aaron Lennon, he penned a three year deal with his boyhood club.
The appointment of Leeds United legend Gary McAlister on January 2008 would be to the benefit of Howson as he was availed more game time in the Leeds United senior team. His best game of the season came in a 2-0 semi-final second leg playoff against Carlisle, where he scored a brace to send his team to the League One play-off final against Doncaster Rovers at Wembley. Howson clinched the Leeds United best young player and fans' young player of the year awards. Also, his contract was extended by three more years.
Howson's career progressed steadily, and in 2009/2010 season, he was named the new Leeds United vice-captain. His consistency with fellow midfield partner Michael Doyle translated to the team's promotion to the Championship.
In the 2010/2011 season, Howson registered 11 goals and 11 assists and was named Leeds United's young players of the season.
In the following season, he was sold to Norwich City, a Premier League team at the time in a deal worth £1.1 million.
After an impressive end to the 2011/2012 season with Norwich City in the Premier League, he could not help the club stay in the division, which meant that Howson had to continue life at the Canaries in the Championship in 2014/2015 season.
Fortunately, his nine goals in 39 games helped his team win promotion back to the Premier League. His second spell with the Canaries in the Premier League was shortlived as they were again relegated back to the Championship in the 2015/2016 season.
Having played a total of 188 games and scored 23 times for Norwich City, he signed for newly relegated EFL club Middlesbrough FC on 7 July 2017.
That season, he broke the 400 career games barrier after featuring for Boro in 48 matches. The following season will also see him break the 400 career start mark having played 47 times for the team that season.
Jonathan Howson has represented England once in a U21 game against Italy.
