Luke Armstrong was born on July 2, 1996, to the former Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town striker Alun Armstrong.
After featuring prominently in Boro’s Youth ranks, he was seen as one whose future lied elsewhere. Therefore, in the summer of 2014, he was released by the Teessiders. Birmingham City picked him on a year deal, a deal that would not be renewed upon expiration.
Armstrong went on trial at Cowdenbeath, a Scottish League side at the time and after a successful trial period, he signed a one year deal.
However, he was forced to terminate contract barely six months in owing to his lack of regular first-team action. After this setback, he opted to start a new season under the tactical guidance of his father at Blyth Spartans.
At Blyth Spartans, Armstrong's goalscoring proficiency became obvious.
He ended up spending just a season at the club because of his 23 goals in 42 league games would attract the interest of one of his former clubs, Middlesbrough FC.
On 16 July, Middlesbrough FC loaned him out to a National League side, Gateshead, where he impressed scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances.
After spending 3 months with Gateshead, Boro recalled him and signed a two and a half year contract.
Nevertheless, he had to spend the rest of the season with Accrington Stanley, a League One side where he made 16 appearances and scored three times.
Armstrong signed for Salford City on a three-year contract in July 2019.
